Water Gilding or Verre Églomisé in Central London

Water gilding, also known as verre églomisé, is the process of gilding the back side of glass with either gold or metal leaf. Designs may also be reverse painted or acid etched for more detail and greater effect.

This ancient technique dates back to pre-Roman times, though it is better known for its French revival origins by decorator Jean-Baptise Glomy in the mid 1700s.

This method of gilding can be used on paintings, furniture, jewellery, mirrors, clocks, shop windows, advertisements and much more.
